FIREWOOD FAQ

All of our firewood is cut to a uniform 16" length. The only standard measurement of firewood is a cord. A cord is 128 cubic feet - 4'x8'x4'. A rick is any subset of a cord. Our ricks are 4'x8'x16" (1/3 of a cord). All of our firewood is hardwoods

- no softwoods at all. Moisture content is 18% or less. This makes for a dry wood

that will burn well.

Q: How Big is a Rick? 

A: A rick of wood approximate measures 8 foot long and 4 foot high.  Each stick of wood we process is 16-18" long, so that would be the depth

Q: Can I fit a rick in my mini-van?

A: Possibly, with all of the seats folded down.  It's a little messy though, so you might just want to have it delivered.

 

Q: How big is a Cord?

A: A rick of wood approximately measures 8 foot long and 4 foot high with 4 feet of depth.  The best way to understand it's size is stack 3 Ricks back to back, which makes a cord.

Q:  Will A Rick or A Cord fit in my pickup truck?

A: A Rick will as long as you are not moving your friends mattress at the same time.  A Cord would be too large and would require the rental of a small trailer from U-Haul etc.

Q: How much is in one of your BULK Bags?

A: A Rick and a little more in some cases fits in our Bulk Bag, which can be loaded at no additional charge into your truck or trailer.  You will need to supply cargo straps to secure your load, or unload some of the wood from the top of the bag to secure from tipping.

Q: Do you guys stack?

A: Yes, for additional fees which can be explained in our pricing section.

Q: Can you dump the wood in my backyard?

A: If your yard is accessible by pavement, yes.  Otherwise, you will need to have dumped on your driveway for the delivery fee.  Additional Delivery Costs are incurred if we have to place the wood anywhere besides dumped on your driveway.  The dump bed needs to be able to elevate as well, so dumping underneath eaves will not be possible.

Q: Is their a way I can get a sample of wood?

A. Yes! We offer small bundles of wood to sample, for pick up only! Select woods are $20.00, and mixed hardwoods are $10.00. Call our office about availability, sometimes we might not have pre made bags available.

Q: Do you accept cash or check?

A: We accept cash for pick up only, we do not accept checks for pickup or delivery. We accept all major credit/debit cards.

Q: Can I schedule a time for my delivery?

A: We can schedule a morning, or afternoon delivery. Morning is sometime between 8am-12pm, afternoon is sometime between 12pm-5pm. We do not schedule a certain time for deliveries, just in case something were to come up.

Q: Do I have to schedule an appointment to pick up wood?

A: No, you can come to our lot any time during our open hours, and we will always have someone here, to help get you loaded.

Q: How long would a rick of wood last me if I burn a fire everyday?

A: There is no telling how long a rick of wood would last. It depends how how often you feed a fire, etc. Ask us about our slower burning options when you call our office!

Q: Do you guys offer senior, or military discount?

A: Not at this time.

Q: Do you guys offer discounts if you buy multiple ricks?

A: No we do not, If you purchase more than one rick, we add an additional delivery fee of $10/rick to cover the extra time it takes to load the truck. This also helps to keep you from paying another delivery fee the next time you are wanting more wood.

Q: Do you keep track of moisture on your firewood?

A: Yes, as each rick leaves the lot, we do a moisture reading to see what the wood is running at. We test 2-3 pieces of the wood, to get more of an average of what the wood is running at. Please know that each piece of wood runs a different moisture, but we will always have an average moisture for you when your wood is delivered. If you would like, the delivery driver can show you the moisture reading of the wood when it is being delivered.

Q:What does a moisture reading tell you, and what is considered a good moisture reading?

A: A moisture reading tells you the percentage of the wood that carries moisture. Anything under 18-20% is considered burnable. If the wood is testing at a higher moisture we will let you know upon purchasing the wood that the moisture is running higher than the burnable level.

Q:What should I think about those Google reviews where someone complains or is critical. 

A: Good Question! We burn our own firewood every day through the winter to make sure we offer a great product.  Not everyone is good at starting a fire.  We offer great customer service for issues that can arise.  Over the course of production, we have established ourselves with enough supply to give plenty of product time to season.  If we ever run into a certain product or species of wood that has a higher content we advise every client prior to purchase.  We don't want to discredit those reviews, where someone had in issue, because the customer is always right.  We offer fire starting products and advice to get the best results.  We are the largest firewood supplier in Indianapolis, and have invested the most in our production efforts to give you the best product in Marion and surrounding counties.
